Summer, 2010

Thanks to the cleverness of Eileen Finestone Anita Weiss and Jane Bialosky, Rosh Chodesh elaborated on the theme "We Can Be a Blessing."   It was an evening filled with laughter, education and lots of delicious food.  Rabbi Birnholz told the stories of three biblical heroines, Ruth, Abigail and Deborah, which led to a lively discussion about how we were able to help others or how others helped us through acts of kindness, compassion and Tzedakah. Thanks so much to Helen Solin for the use of her club house.

A BIG THANKS to Miriam Gross for her work in scheduling the Gift Shop. If you know you’ll be at services and would be happy to work the
Gift Shop, give Miriam a call or email her at 772-567-4006 or

All Sisterhood members will be receiving a Questionnaire in August in the hopes of finding things that appeal to each of you. Please answer the survey promptly and return the responses to the Temple or to Sisterhood so the Board will have some guidance on how to better serve our members.

HOLD THE DATE! September 18th is Yom Kippur and all High Holiday ticket holders are invited to Break the Fast after services. This is FREE to all ticket holders. Please be sure to bring your tickets. You will also need to RSVP with the Temple office, 772-569-4700, so that we can have enough food planned. If you’d like to volunteer to prepare food or help serve, please call or email Judy Levine at 772-299-6157 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We’ve had a request that if you’d like, when you bring food, give us a recipe and we’ll post it in Simply Sisterhood. Perhaps we can create a Simply Sisterhood cookbook!

HOLD THE DATE! October 17th TBS will be having a “scholar-in-residence” program featuring Maggie Anton, author of the Rashi’s Daughters Trilogy. “Sisters of the Book” book club read all three of the books and 6 of us traveled to West Palm last year to hear her speak.  She was wonderful and we are looking forward to having her on our campus. Information to follow!

Are you interested in helping with the phone squad? If so, please call or email Carole Sherman at 772-567-8957 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

CALENDAR
There are no scheduled Sisterhood activities during the summer but Anita Weiss, program chairperson, is working up some great activities for the next year!

DONATIONS
Did you know you could make donations to two sisterhood funds?  Any donations that come in for Sisterhood or Sisterhood Kitchen Fund will now be reflected in the Scroll as well as Simply Sisterhood. Please remember, this is now the fund that provides Challah for each Friday night service as well as hiring a person for set up and clean up for the Onegs.
A Donation has been made to Sisterhood by Marilyn Trager!

SISTERHOOD ACTIVITIES
MahJongg is every Thursday from 1:00-3:00 in the Social Hall. Have you thought about learning to play? We’ve been teaching new people so we have many more women anxious to play. Come join us!

SOMETHING NEW!
Starting in October (not sooner due to the High Holidays) the 2nd Thursday of every month (October 14th) will be “Lunch Box Chats.” Come at 12 noon with your brown bag, and stay and kibbitz and then go on with your plans for the day or join our game day. Bring a Sisterhood friend or a new member. Bring cards and find a bridge game, bring a game and find scrabble players. Let’s see if we can increase our Game Day to more than mahjongg.

Sisterhood has 2 successful, large book clubs. Do you want to start a third?
Call Sue Docktor at 772-466-8706 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and she’ll help you start one. We read books with Jewish themes as well as new releases.

GIFT SHOP
The Temple Gift Shop is not on vacation! We are available for all your Judaica needs. If you’re visiting, bring a timely gift to your Rosh Hashanah hosts. Need Bar or Bat Mitzvah gifts for the fall? We have that unique gift, a Judaica selection is always appropriate. Remember when you support your SISTERHOOD gift shop, all monies go directly to the Sisterhood, which in turn funds numerous things at TBS. All the personnel that staff the gift shop are volunteers from the Sisterhood. We always need more volunteers! Call or email Miriam Gross if you’d like to volunteer: 772-567-4006 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Hours for the gift shop in the Social Hall are as follows: Thursdays 1:00 to 3:00 PM and Friday evenings at the Onegs. Also by appointment with Ruth Brown 772-559-9076 or Deborah Segal 772-567-8740.
